'The emblem of the Pilot Wheelmen is the most characteristic design for a cycling club yet seen here. What could be more appropriate for a club with that name than a pilot wheel with the letter P in the center? Pat this on a man's sweater and it requires no imagination whatever to decide that familiar question: "What club does he belong to?" He is a Pilot wheelman.'
"The uniform for the club was also adopted, and will be a very neat one, being dark blue pante, coat and cap to match, with a white sweater with the emblem on it of a Pilot wheel, encircling a bicycle wheel with the letter P in the center."

The Pilot Wheelman.
The bicyclists met last evening at the Pilot rooms and organized as the Pilot Wheelmen, all the members of the club being members of that company.
The officers elected are President, Fred W. Swanton; Vice-President, Louis Pioda; Secretary and Treasurer, Harry Wanzer; Captain, Ralph Thompson; First Lieutenant, Reuben Pringle; Second Lieutenant, Tully Ware; Standard-bearer, Ernest Lane; Bugler, Frank Armstrong,
The first run will be made one week from Sunday.

The Pilot Bicycle Annex met last night at the new club rooms, organized and elected the following officers: President, Fred W. Swanton; Vice-President, Louis Pioda; Secretary and Treasurer, Harry Wanzer; Captain, Ralph Thompson; First Lieutenant, Reuben Pringle: Second Lieutenant, Tully Ware: Standard-bearer, Ernest Land; Bugler, Frank Armstrong. The name selected was Pilot Wheelman, as all the cyclers are members of the Pilot hose Company. The first run will be made next Sunday. The bicycle craze reached Santa Cruz a month ago and the streets are full of wheels. Another club will probably be formed in a few days.
The Pilot Wheelmen are asked to extend invitations to other Bicycle Clube throughout the State to take part in the Carnival.

Bad Fall from a Bicycle.

Santa Cruz, May 12. - This afternoon Ralph Thompson, captain of the Pilot Wheelmen and ex-chief consul of the San Francisco Bicyclists, met with a serious accident while coasting on his bicycle near Capitola. He fell from his wheel and struck his head against a rock. He is suffering from concussion of the brain. Dr. Morgan, the attending płysician, says that his recovery is probable. Thompson is a prominent young business man of this city, and was among the first organizers of bicycle clubs in this state.

At the executive session of the carnival committee last night, the bicycle tournament was taken up and much encouragement was offered the new cycling club, the Pilot Wheelmen, who have large ideas as to the number of cycling visitors, will assist in making the carnival interesting. Every cyclist will be glad to know that much attention is being paid to good roads. The streets are being put in perfect order and the cliff road is being watered daily. Attention is being given to the improvement of the bicycle track and valuable prizes will be offered for the orents in the tournament
Several parties rode down Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. The Olympic Wheelmen started to ride down at 5 o'clock last night, resting at San Jose and going over the mountains early this morning. The racing men all left by train last night. The Pilot Wheelmen, who have in hand the management of the races, have done everything in their power to make their initial meet a success. The track is in good condition, the prizes liberal, and as all the fast men will compete success seems assured.
