There were a few people who might have been this W. H. Gibbons, racing bicycles in 1884. The person mentioned in newspaper articles only raced for about one year. This William Hammond Gibbons would have been 17 in 1884, coming from an influential family, living in Alameda, where riding was popular, and able to afford a bicycle and engage in silly pursuits. Guessing it's the right person, but no way to know for sure.
