Relay race

Teams race against each other over a course defined by contiguous segments, with a racer from each team assigned to race each segment, passing some token to the next racer as they finish their segment, until the racers of the final segment reach the finish. An example was the annual 100-mile relay race from San Francisco to Oakland.
